They're called stair lifts. They start around $2000, but the cost depends on the installation. The one in the video, which curves around a wall, would cost more. A number of manufacturers make them.

The Tommy Udo system is relatively inexpensive.

Hey Roger, and everybody else who has an interest in steel mills and in seeing them modeled on train layouts, you are likely going to enjoy the latest (I just received mine today) issue of OGR, Run306, June/July.

There is a fine article featuring a handsome layout of Doug Chiado's which features an interesting model of a steel mill. The article is written in a way I found interesting and intriguing .

The Run also includes an article by Rich Melvin about "Struthers, Ohio...Then and Now," which I found interesting since, like Roger, it's focus is on an area and industry that were part of my upbringing .

I recommend you get yourself a copy of Run 306, sit back, and enjoy a pleasant read in our hobby.

I have arthritis and I will be 85in a month. Now if that lets me fit the elderly description my answer is that it varies by person.
I don't have too much problem with stairs. If I can get moving at all I can do the stairs.

My only issue with stairs, most heavy physical activity or even walking a 1/4 mile the past year, has been with my right hip. After going up and down stairs several times, heavy working in the yard, I can have such excruciating RH hip pain when I step, I look like Walter Brennan in the "Real McCoys". This pain can go on for days or even a week or so. I feel hip replacement is in the future for me, but am avoiding it like the plague.

Don't. With modern techniques and materials, replacing a defective hip is liberating.

That's what I've been told Rex. In fact one of our employees had a hip replaced last December and decided to have the other one done in February.

But, I've never been in the hospital, never had surgery and am just PARANOID as h*ll about doing this. You never know what happens in a hospital these days or what you might be exposed to or suffer, due to brainless employees. I know it's the most successful replacement surgery you can have, but I will most likely put it off until I can't stand the pain. I hate needles, get queasy just going in hospital to visit and get woosy watching any of the live surgery shows. The thought of having my body hacked up is painful.

This has become a pretty routine technique now and rather advanced in materials and minimization of complications. Key to either hip or knee replacement surgery is doing the PT like your life depends on it.
