White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn Christmas Snack Recipe (2024)

Jump to Recipe

Everything in our home takes on a holiday twist when it’s the Christmas season – even our snacks! There’s nothing wrong with making most the season. One of my favorite Christmas snack recipes is this White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn. It takes minutes to make and you only need 3 ingredients to make it. We make a batch to snack on while we decorate the tree or when we’re watching Christmas movies.

You’ve got to be a fan of peppermint to enjoy this one. However, you can make it more or less pepperminty if you’d like to adjust it. We go all out and add in all the peppermint we can get. I make a batch and keep it in a gallon freezer bag, in our pantry, to enjoy throughout the season. It’s also a great homemade holiday gift from the kitchen too.

We’ll make this every year when we’re watching Christmas movies. I love snacking on the peppermint popcorn with a hot cup of coffee and my kids love it with iced cold milk. It’s such a festive snack that comes together in minutes. Plus, since we’re only eating it during the holiday season, it feels really special to the kids.

How To Make White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn

Only three ingredients are required to make your popcorn, but there’s an optional addition if you’d like more crunch and peppermint flavor. It tastes like a frosted creamy popcorn and it’s so addictive. I also love the pink color that it ends up being – so much fun.

You’ll need a baking sheet (roasting pan), mixing bowls and spatula to make the recipe. It’s a simple recipe that doesn’t require much work in the kitchen and comes together in minutes.

When To Make White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn

This popcorn is perfect for the family, during the holiday season, but it also makes a great gift. It’s so much easier to make this popcorn than to sit around and back batches of cookies. I’m all about easy for Christmas! Make this for teacher gifts, church gatherings, movie nights and for Christmas parties.

An alternative way to make this recipe is to make them into popcorn balls! That’s a fun way to make individual portions that you can gift wrap and pass out as gifts for loved ones.

How To Keep Your Christmas Popcorn Fresh

After you make the popcorn, keep it fresh by storing it in an airtight food storage container. This will help to keep any moisture out of the popcorn to keep it fresh longer. You want the popcorn to maintain that nice crunch and not be too soft.

Unfortunately, this White Peppermint Popcorn doesn’t freeze well. Store it in the pantry for up to six weeks and enjoy it before tossing after six weeks.

Recipe Substitutions

If you can’t find the Hershey Candy Cane Kisses, look for any substitute that has a white chocolate base. The candy cane kisses are the best to use, but there are brands that make similar products.

Ensure the popcorn kernels aren’t included in your snack and all of the popcorn is popped. However, you can use bagged popcorn and there will be less kernels to pick out – which is an easier option. Just purchase a plain popcorn and not flavored.

What You’ll Need From The Grocery Store:

Directions To Make White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn

To start, pop your popcorn according to package instructions. While it’s cooking, unwrap the entire bag of Candy Cane Hershey Kisses.

If you’d like less peppermint flavor, only unwrap 3/4 of the bag. Melt the candy and butter in the microwave, for 2 minutes, stirring once at the 1 minute mark.

Stir the melted candy butter mixture into the popcorn until well coated. Spread the coated popcorn onto a baking sheet and let it harden for 15-20 minutes before enjoying. I used wax paper underneath my popcorn for easier clean up.

If you’d like to add crunch to your popcorn, add crushed candy canes on top for garnish. Serve and enjoy!
