Aeronautics Camp

FREE OVERNIGHT CAMP FOR HIGH SCHOOL FEMALES

Nikki Kukwa Memorial Aeronautics Camp (NKMAC) is a FREE overnight camp for high school females interested in careers in aeronautics.

Twenty female, high school students will receive a three-day camp award through the Nikki Kukwa Memorial
Aviation Fund and Kent State University’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering. Selection for this camp
means there is no financial expectation to participants and their families.
Participants will explore careers in aviation while staying in dorms on Kent State University Kent Campus. The camp includes an airport tour, experiences at KSU’s Air Traffic Control and Flight Simulator Labs and aflight out of the KSU Airport. Participants will also learn more about majors in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, financial aid and campus life.

Submit your application online by June 14. Upon submission, your application will require one of the following items:500-word Essay: Describe why you would like to attend the camp. Upload the document within the online application.
Teacher Recommendation Letter: Ask a teacher to write a letter of recommendation and submit it via email to Cassy Mendenhall at cmenden6@kent.edu.

Interested in bringing airplane and drone operations training to your high school? Eager to learn about safe flying practices and how to teach these subjects to your students? Inspired to create pathways for students to become a pilot of manned and unmanned aircraft? Ready to obtain your Remote Pilot Certificate? Join our workshop hosted by the College of Aeronautics and Engineering:“Drones: Coexisting with Planes.”

This three-day workshop is free and open to high school educators and administrators who want to educate future manned aircraft pilots and UAS operators. Topics covered include drone flight techniques, Part 107 certification guidance, drone registration procedures, and operating within a crewed environment. This workshop includes training sessions to use Kent State’s established curriculum and tools to discuss with students the educational and career pathways, and training in virtual reality (VR) curriculum in aircraft pilot and UAS operations.

FANUC Robot Training

Kent State University is a FANUC Authorized Certified Education Training Facility that is able to provide training to students enrolled in academic programs as well as industry representatives. FANUC certified professors conduct all training at Kent State and are committed to providing the best learning experience.

Summer STEM & Innovation Camps

Registration fee per camp: $125 per camp through May 12; $150 per camp after May 12.
Note: When registering, please use your child’s enrolling grade for 2023-24.
Cancellations must be submitted via email to continuinged@kent.edu within 5 business days prior to the camp start date to receive a refund.

All camps are hosted in the AT&T Classroom/Room 034 of Moulton Hall on the Kent State Campus.

FILLED 3D Digital Design for Augmented Reality and Printing 3 spots available

Campers will use 3DSlash and Maker Empire to design 3D projects for printing and use CoSpaces and Merge Cubes to create augmented reality projects. Each camper will also print out one of their projects to take home.

Suggested grades: 4+ (Appropriate for grades 4 through 8)

FILLED Full STEAM Ahead with LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential *optional Free add-on

LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential is LEGO’s learning platform for amplifying children’s understanding of concepts for science, technology, literacy, and math. Campers will engage in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts as they build with LEGO® elements and program with the intuitive SPIKE™ App.

Suggested grades: 3+ (Appropriate for grades 3 through 8)

Schedule: July 8 - 11, 2024 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM

FILLED Exploring Robotics *optional Free add-on FILLED

Campers will explore coding and computational thinking through hands-on experiences with a variety of programmable robots including mBots, Ozobot Evos, Edisons, and Sphero SPRK+.

Full STEAM Ahead with LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential - Session 2 *optional Free add-on

LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential is LEGO’s learning platform for amplifying children’s understanding of concepts for science, technology, literacy, and math. Campers will engage in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts as they build with LEGO® elements and program with the intuitive SPIKE™ App.

Digital Game Design

Campers will build from their excitement for video games and learn to design and program their own playable digital games using tools such as RPG Maker MV and more.

Math is FUN with STEM Activities - suggested grades 3+

Each day, students will play math games, puzzles and STEM Challenges that use math. Campers will leave loving math!

This camp can be selected as a FREE add-on of the July morning camps with families able to select from one of three sessions July 8-11, July 15-18, or July 22-25, 2024. Following the morning camp, KSU staff will provide lunch 11:30 - 12:30 PM for campers staying for the afternoon session. the afternoon session will run 12:30 - 3PM in the AT& T Classroom.

As a part of the Trio Upward Bound Program's commitment to delivering an employability skills curriculum to our participants, we offer our Career Connections Work Study Program. This program employs 11th and 12th-grade students on campus during the Summer Institute and connects them with career coaches to supervise and help develop relevant skills right in your office! This program thrives off of the support of the community, Upward Bound is seeking on-campus worksites to host first-generation prospective college students during the following dates and times.
