Player ratings are now available ahead of Madden NFL 24's upcoming release. The latest installment in the 43-year-old franchise brings a number of new improvements to the Madden formula, including the updated FieldSense gameplay system and all-new animations for players. Of course, it also reflects the latest developments in the professional football world, with new rookies, new team gear, and new stats across the board. This one's shaping up to be one of the best Madden games in recent memory.
Madden NFL 24 characters are rated in 55 categories, too numerous and specialized to list. However, the primary (and usually most important) stats include strength, agility, awareness, catching, carrying, a suite of throw and kick power ratings, and multiple different kinds of blocks. These are all combined into an overall rating (or OVR), which can go as high as 99. These are the top ten players by OVR, plus a little about where they come from and what they do best.

10 Tyreek Hill
With an OVR of 98, Tyreek Hill is the 10th highest-ranked player in Madden NFL 24 (although technically, he's in a five-way tie for second). Hill currently plays as a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, but previously filled the same position for the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s been nicknamed “Cheetah” for his speed - and that’s reflected in his Madden 24 stats. His speed and acceleration both sit at 99, with a 98 agility stat to back that up and help out with some quick turning. His throwing and kicking stats are far lower, and aren’t quite up to snuff, but Hill has everything a wide receiver needs.
9 Trent Williams
Trent Williams also has an OVR of 98 in Madden NFL 24. He's played as number 71 for the San Francisco 49ers since 2020, but before that, was a member of the Washington Commanders. Williams is considered one of the best tackles in the NFL, and has made the Pro Bowl 10 times in a 13-year career. His incredible strength is his greatest asset, although his speed suffers somewhat as a result. As expected of a talented tackle, Williams has high strength and toughness stats in Madden - both 98 - along with a stunning impact blocking stat of 99.
8 Nick Bosa
Nick Bosa ties with his 49ers teammate Trent Williams in Madden NFL 24 with an OVR of 98. Bosa was the second overall pick at the 2019 NFL Draft, and since then has played as a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers. In Madden NFL 24, Bosa is a right end with high awareness (99), finesse moves (98), and play recognition (97). That means he can be counted on to notice the opposing team’s strategies and take decisive action, making him a strong defensive player. However, the rest of Bosa’s stats are spread out - he’s not a winner in every category like some of the other top ten members.
7 Miles Garrett
As a defensive end, Miles Garrett has a wholly different strategy from Nick Bosa, but he's just as effective in Madden NFL 24 with an OVR of 98. Where Bosa is all about awareness and finesse, Garrett specializes in pure strength (with a 96), power moves (98), and pursuit (97). First pick in the 2017 Draft, Garrett’s played for the Cleveland Browns ever since. He’s known for racking up sacks on the real-life field, making him an excellent defensive player in Madden 24.
6 Lane Johnson
Lane Johnson has been with the Philadelphia Eagles for a decade, having started his pro career there in 2013. An experienced player, he’s tied with Trent Williams for the best offensive tackle in Madden NFL 24 - both have an OVR of 98. Johnson is fast, but doesn’t skimp on stopping power - his running block has an overall stat of 98, with the highest possible run block power of 99. He also has high blocking stats across the board, with a 95 impact blocking rating, 95 lead block, and 96 pass block. With numbers like that, he’ll keep defenders in check, so his Ultimate Team can score.
5 Zack Martin
Although ranked fifth, the Dallas Cowboys' own Zack Martin is technically tied for highest overall rating in Madden NFL 24, with an OVR of 99. He’s been with the Cowboys since the beginning of his pro career, but previously played college football for Notre Dame. In Madden NFL 24, some of his best stats are awareness, run block, and injury, all at 98. The first two relate to his position as a right guard, devoted to protecting the quarterback and creating openings for his teammates to run through. He also has a high injury rating of 98, which means he’s less prone to getting hurt when he takes a bad bump.
4 Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce had a good year, having featured prominently in 2023's Super Bowl LVII. This was the second championship he's won with the Kansas City Chiefs, the first being LIV, and he's had touchdown receptions in both. In Madden NFL 24, Kelce's a versatile player with a good spread of stats and an OVR of 99. His best are toughness (94), catch (97), stamina (97), and awareness (99). As a tight end, Kelce’s got it where it counts. He’s a strong offensive player, and his recent Super Bowl victories make him a desirable addition to any Madden Ultimate Team.
3 Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the KC Chiefs, featured just as prominently in Super Bowl LVII as Kelce. The two teammates are tied in Madden NFL 24, both with an OVR of 99. Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl MVP, and previously played both college football and baseball at Texas Tech; obviously, he made his choice. As a QB, his Madden stats focus on the offense, with high toughness (99), awareness (98), throw power (97), and stamina (96). All in all, Mahomes is the second-best offensive player in Madden 24.
2 Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson, most recently declared NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, also happens to be the best offensive player in Madden NFL 24. Jefferson, a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, boasts an OVR of 99. Hailing from the LSU Tigers for his collegiate stint, Jefferson's offensive stats are some of the highest in the game: 98 catch, 98 stamina, 96 change of direction, and excellent, widespread running stats. But players looking to fill out their defensive rosters will need to look elsewhere.
1 Aaron Donald
Aaron Donald, a defensive tackle for the LA Rams, is the number one highest-rated player in Madden NFL 24. What elevates him to the number one spot in a pool of incredible football talent is his high stats across the board. He's a defensive player, sure, and he's got the numbers to back it up - but his offensive stats are some of the best in the game, too. With 99 strength, awareness, power moves, and play recognition, along with 98 toughness, he has by far the highest stat spread in Madden 24. But he’s also good in other categories - speed, acceleration, and agility in particular - making him an all-rounder.
Madden NFL 24 is out on August 18, 2023 - but EA Play subscribers and Deluxe Edition pre-orderers can access the game three days early on August 15. Player stats will change throughout the upcoming football season, so it'll be interesting to see if the players on top can stay there throughout Madden NFL 24's shelf life.
