I spent 7 nights in a 200-square-foot room on Celebrity’s newest cruise ship. Take a look inside my cabin (2024)

Having launched in November 2023, Celebrity Ascent is Celebrity Cruises' newest ship at sea. At just 140,600 gross registered tons, she isn't the largest vessel at sea; however, she is certainly one of the most stunning. Everything about this ship impressed me, from the gorgeous public spaces to the indulgent dining options. One of my favorite aspects of the ship, however, was my stateroom. Having booked this cruise just a few weeks prior to sailing, my options were pretty limited. Instead of booking my usual interior room, the only available cabin was a Prime Ocean View, which cost $2,879.50. Upon entering my stateroom, I was shocked at how tiny the window was; it wasn't the same size as a normal picture window. One afternoon, I noticed that my view was slightly obstructed by the Magic Carpet on Deck 5. Thankfully, it didn't impact my view of the sea, just the sky! I appreciated having natural light and found that I barely felt any motion in my cabin, which was located midship on Deck 3. Since I was traveling by myself, I opted to keep the two twin beds together, as I love the feeling of sleeping alone in a larger bed! Having stayed in interior rooms as small as 158 square feet, I noticed how spacious my cabin felt, measuring around 200 square feet. Since Celebrity Ascent is such a new ship, I had relatively high expectations for the condition of my stateroom, and I was not disappointed. Starting with the vanity, there was an entire box dedicated specifically to outlets. In addition to two USB ports, there were also two American plugs, as well as a single European one. There were two more USB ports and a single American outlet beside the bed, which made charging my phone at night super convenient. While I think it might have been a little smarter to put at least one port on the other side, having any options near the bed is a huge improvement compared to older ships at sea. There was a flat-screen television across from the bed that I had to use to watch the required safety videos, as the mobile app wasn't working properly on embarkation morning. Moving back to the vanity, there was a large mirror with a nice LED mirror. I appreciated how tall it was, as I was able to get a full-body view. Unlike my stateroom on Symphony of the Seas, the mirror in this cabin extended horizontally instead of vertically. One of the first things I noticed on the vanity was two bottles of Evian water. Since this was my first-ever Celebrity cruise, I foolishly mistook them as being complimentary and cracked one open. My stateroom attendant later informed me that they were actually $6.60 each, after the 20% gratuity was added. Additionally, while I didn't get any towel animals, I did receive a small vase with fresh flowers on my vanity one evening. I knew that you could order flowers to be delivered; however, I didn't expect my cabin steward to leave them! The mini-fridge came fully stocked with chips, soda, and even alcoholic beverages. Of course, these were not included in my cruise fare. A 375ml bottle of Chardonnay cost an astonishing $30! There was more than enough storage throughout the cabin. I did not even utilize all of the dresser drawers! In fact, I started using one drawer just for my dirty laundry since I had so many that were empty. I didn't have an issue with the size of the closet, and I loved how many hangers were available. There have been times in the past when I have needed to ask for more. I did not struggle with space in the bathroom, either. On each side of the mirror, there were three shelves. One, however, was occupied by two glasses. You could easily have them removed by alerting your stateroom attendant that you didn't want them, though. I loved the amenities available in the ensuite bathroom, too, such as hand lotion and a shower cap. There was also a standard bar of soap, as well as two makeup remover wipes. As someone who isn't used to cruising on upscale cruise lines, I didn't expect the bathroom to have so many little added touches. The shower even had separate shampoo, condition, and body wash. Celebrity's sister line Royal Caribbean only offers a shampoo/body wash hybrid. The shower in my standard ocean-view cabin was notably spacious, easily surpassing any I've had before. Plus, I didn't have any concerns about accidentally bumping my arms on the walls. Despite being such a new ship, you aren't required to leave your stateroom in any sort of slot for the lights to work. Moreover, there was a fancy screen that not only functioned as the thermostat, but allowed me to put my cabin into different "moods," including morning, evening, sleep, and movie! Overall, this Prime Ocean View cabin was the perfect "home away from home" for my 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise. Even though my window was tinier than I expected, I wouldn't hesitate to book this cabin again; however, if there was a stateroom with a full-sized window available for the same price, I would definitely select the latter. I had such a fantastic week onboard dining at Le Voyage and exploring San Juan, Tortola, and St. Kitts; I'm looking forward to being back on this ship for another 7 nights this July sailing around the Greek Isles!
