- Hybrid
Girl Scout Cookies, often shortened to GSC, is an indica-dominant strain (variety) of cannabis and is a cross between OG Kush and Durban Poison. It is approximately 60% Cannabis indica and 40% Cannabis sativa. Girl Scout Cookies flowers usually have been measured to contain around 19% to 20% THC, very little CBD, and occasionally about 1% CBG. Due to the Durban Poison parentage, some varieties may contain THCV.
Girl Scout Cookies were bred and developed by the Cookie Fam collective in San Francisco and released around 2009. Rumors suggest that the original breeder is Berner, but this has not been confirmed. Popular hybrids include Animal Cookies, Platinum Cookies, Thin Mint, Blue Cookies, Gelato, and Cookies n Cream.
The exact lineage of the strain is also unknown and is kept a secret among members of the collective, who have also bred cultivars like Gelato, Cherry Pie, and Sunset Sherbet. GSC’s parents are thought to be Florida OG Kush and F1 Durban Poison, and Granddaddy Purple (GDP) may also be one of the parents.
The GSC strain is noted for its sweet, mint, vanilla, biscuit, chocolate, and pastry-like flavors and appetite-inducing, uplifting effects. Patients have used GSC for chronic pain, nausea, appetite loss, anxiety, and depression.

CBD and low doses of THC can modulate serotonin transmission and help decrease cortisol levels, which can alleviate stress and anxiety.
Modulation of serotonin transmission also gives CBD anti-depressant effects. The euphoria caused by low doses of THC can also help lift the mood.
Cannabis contains many anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce pain. THC has analgesic (pain-killing) effects, whereas CBD can reduce inflammation and reduce the volume of pain signals being sent from the brain to the nerves.
Medical cannabis can help reduce pain, nausea, anxiety, and insomnia associated with chemotherapy.
Dosing
GSC can have quite high levels of THC, so those using this cultivar to manage anxiety and/or depression should take it in low doses to take advantage of its anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and anti-depressant effects and to reduce the chances of a negative reaction. Those using GSC to manage pain or the side effects of chemotherapy may require more THC and need to develop a tolerance to the cannabinoid to some extent to take advantage of the full therapeutic effects.
If you are using GSC via an edible, go even slower and lower and start off with a dose of 5.0 mg or less (ideally about 2-3 mg). This is because the effects of edible cannabis can be more potent than inhaled cannabis.
Growing

GSC has grown in popularity over the years. As with many other popular cannabis strains, many producers create copies or approximations of the genetics (often called “hacks”) to sell seeds. Some of these may be good copies, some less so. You can get Girl Scout Cookies either as a clone from a dispensary in states that allow for cultivation or seed from Cali Connection.
Those looking for a high-yielding cannabis variety may want to consider another strain, as GSC’s yield is moderate, or approximately 10 ounces per square meter when grown indoors using the “sea of green” (SoG) method (considered ideal). Those looking to maximize yield ought to think about training their plant.
GSC is usually recommended for growers with some experience. Indoor or greenhouse grows are ideal for this variety of cannabis, and it is best to find a good mother plant, take cuttings and grow from clones.
Height
Girl Scout Cookies usually grow to a height between 30 and 60 inches (2.5 to 5 feet), depending on the phenotype. As GSC contains a strong sativa component, some may grow towards the taller end of the range.
Humidity and Temperature
During the vegetative period, GSC prefers a temperature of about 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 degrees Celsius) and 50% humidity. During the flowering stage, a similar temperature of 68 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 26 degrees Celsius) during the day is generally optimal, falling to between 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 to 21 degrees Celsius) at night. It is best to reduce the humidity in your grow room to 30% during the flowering stage.
Flowering
Girl Scout Cookies take around about 9 to 10 weeks to finish flowering
