Position Summary
The Accounting Manager leads in developing department goals and staff, and managing department resources. The manager continually seeks out new process improvements and ensures that controls are being adhered to. Consistent positive communication is key in maintaining strong working relationships with our internal and external business partners

The SEC Reporting Manager is responsible for overseeing the information gathering, timely preparation and detailed review of the Company’s quarterly and annual SEC filings as well as researching and proposing accounting policy guidance to ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (U.S. GAAP).

Job Duties/Essential Functions

  • COMMUNICATION: Regularly shares information with employees via meetings and one-on-one conversations. Successfully navigates difficult conversations with employees, members, and suppliers. Listens, expresses empathy, and adapts to get point across. Addresses issues immediately to ensure a timely resolution and to avoid escalating the situation. Consistently demonstrates business knowledge during interactions with senior management.
  • SELF-MANAGEMENT: Demonstrates sound judgment, taking a partner when necessary. Ability to maintain self-control in the face of hostility or provocation, or in intense, hectic situations.

  • Provides leadership and actively participates as a member of the Accounting management team.
  • This is a full-time management/leadership position (45+ hours per week).

Experience, skills, education & licenses/certifications
Required:

  • Management experience required.
  • Letter of recommendation from current manager or director.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting and minimum three years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, consolidations, and financial statement preparation and disclosure.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Costco Accounting systems.
  • Solid understanding of controls and processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with appropriate attention to detail.
  • Extremely responsive, with a strong sense of urgency and flexibility to work longer hours when business needs arise.
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with accounting staff and business partner relationships (internal and external).
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deal with constant change in a positive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including ability to work successfully with people at all management levels and proven leadership skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to plan, organize and establish priorities to meet goals and achieve results with a proven history of consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Work well under pressure and strive for excellence while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Excellent organizational and follow up skills required.
  • Must be extremely responsive, with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Must be willing to rotate as needed within the organization.
  • HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire); Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion).

Recommended:

  • Certified Public Accountant license.
  • XBRL preparation and review experience.
  • Experience with Financial Reporting software (e.g. Hyperion Financial Management, OneStream, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Excel, Google, ReconNet, Cadency, SAP, BI, preferred with an aptitude for learning new systems.
  • Proven leadership skills, including leading large projects and/or goal development and implementation.
  • Willingness to share knowledge, teach and assist others.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities and timelines.
