Nestled along the serene shores of the “quiet part” of Lake of the Ozarks, a one-of-a-kind lakefront retreat is for sale.
There’s nothing on the Lake quite like Lake View Hideaway Retreat. The buildings include two quaint guest cottages, a fully-equipped innkeeper’s cottage, and a central meeting house.

Outside, every inch of the stunning, 17-acre property feels intentionally crafted.
From the flowerbeds adored with bearded irises, to the many quiet places to sit and enjoy the sounds of nature, to the winding trail that loops down past the dock, to the untamed spaces filled with birds, deer, and other wildlife, Lake View Hideaway Retreat is one-of-a-kind.

When Sam and Don VanderPal bought the property, it was a blank slate.
“When we purchased the property, you could not see the Lake,” Sam said. “And so over a period of years, we had 100 feet of waterfront opened up so you could see the Lake.
They built two cottages, each overlooking its own cove. They built a greenhouse, a raised-bed garden, and a raised meditation platform with a view over the Lake.
They took the old, small home on the property and lovingly renewed it into the rustic Innkeeper’s Cottage. And they built the “Gathering Place” meeting house in the middle.
“The layout of it was by design, so that both cottages that were rented would not see each other when guests are sitting on the decks. They have complete privacy and their own private views.”
The two cottages are small and cozy on purpose: here, the experience is not about the quantity of guests but the quality of the experience. One cottage sleeps two; the other sleeps four. So with only six guests on property at any time, Lakeview Hideaway offers a genuine respite — a retreat from the noise and busyness, and even just the people of daily life. Sam calls it “a world away from the rest of the world.”
A stroll through the property reveals gentle grassy areas punctuated by impeccable landscaping. But the wild woods linger on the perimeter, offering an even deeper retreat.
And while Lake View Hideaway might be one-of-a-kind in 2024, VanderPal says visitors often tell them the resort reminds them of simpler times, the “good old days” at the Lake. How it used to be. And that’s been the secret to the resort’s success.
Now, a new owner will shape the future of this beloved retreat. Sam and Don are selling the resort turnkey, and will even happily include the business’ Google page with its coveted 5-star review.
Potential buyers will be interested to know the developed portion of the property is set up as a subdivision, zoned R-2. Thanks to the expansive 17 acres and 1,600 feet of shoreline, there’s plenty of room for an owner with vision to build more.
